The goal of this course is to develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to foster critical thinking and the ability to express opinions in argumentative discourse. Readings include Japanese novels, essays, short stories, poems, plays, and articles, providing opportunities to learn diverse writing styles and engage in textual analysis. Japanese films are also used to broaden students’ cultural awareness and enhance knowledge of Japanese society. Students are required to write essays on topics related to the reading materials and deliver presentations. The course also aims to further cultivate the ability to study Japanese independently. Prerequisites: J100B, or consent of instructor.
